Reading Well Books on Prescription help to manage health and well-being.
The National Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme for England is managed by The reading Agency and the Society of Chief Librarians with funding from the Arts Council England. The scheme offers a range of expert endorsed self-help books which have proven value (Government report: Self-help interventions for mental health problems) in helping people who suffer from common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, anger and panic attacks. Books can work well on their own or in conjunction with other forms of help, support, of therapy.
The recommended books can be found in the Health section of libraries and can be borrowed by any adult.
Your doctor may prescribe a book for you to borrow from the library, although you will need to be a library member.
